Upcoming Community Events!
Online literary salons and an anniversary celebration! Oh, my! Mark your calendars now for April 21, May 24, and July 14. Everyone's welcome!
I know you’re anxiously awaiting the next chapter of If You Only Knew. Not to worry, it will arrive in your inbox on Sunday as promised. Chapter 6 will wrap up the first of three parts of the book. In part 2, I leave home and start my own period of secret-keeping (you can guess what that’s about!)
I’m overjoyed (and relieved) with how it’s going so far. It feels great to finally be releasing these stories into the world— a little scary, yes, but still... Your wonderful feedback has been both encouraging and affirming. Thank you!
And don’t worry if you’ve fallen behind, you can catch up anytime here:
Even with your comments and emails, which I’m always grateful for, without the opportunity to talk with you directly, sometimes writing feels like I’m shouting into the wind. I would love to connect with you about the themes in this book and more. So, because I’m an event planner/community organizer by nature and profession, I’m going to be hosting three free online special events over the next four months! They’ll all be different, so you’re welcome and encouraged to come to all of them or choose the one(s) that best fits your schedule.
I don’t know whether we’ll have three, thirty, or three hundred people gathering, but whoever shows up is who’s supposed to be there. I hope it includes you!
Please register for each event separately. You’ll find descriptions and links below.
Join me to listen, share, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. Who knows, we might even dance! It would mean the world to me to see you there.
EVENTS
Mark your calendars now! You won’t want to miss these!
If You Only Knew Literary Salon 1
April 21, 2024
7:00-8:30 pm Eastern (6:00 pm Central, 5:00 pm Mountain, 4:00 pm Pacific)
In the tradition of the literary salon, we'll engage in a thought-provoking discussion exploring themes of family, identity, and resilience that resonate throughout the first half of my serialized memoir, If You Only Knew: A Memoir of Family Secrets and Their Undoing.
I’ll start by sharing a reading, and then we’ll delve into your questions, observations, and ideas, including what it’s like to write and share deeply personal stories. Whether you've been traveling on this journey with me from the beginning or are curious to learn more, I’d love to see you there.
The salon is free, but to receive the Zoom link for the April 21st salon, please register at:

One Year Anniversary Celebration
May 24, 2024
7:00-8:30 pm Eastern (6:00 pm Central, 5:00 pm Mountain, 4:00 pm Pacific)
Come celebrate with me! One year ago, I started a new writing journey by posting sixty-five stories over the course of several months about women I call Accidental Mentors, women who have impacted my life in some way. I’ve published over 137 newsletters in all, including my latest serialized memoir project, If You Only Knew: A Memoir of Family Secrets and Their Undoing. It’s been quite a year!
To celebrate this momentous occasion, I’ve invited several of my favorite writers, Meg Kearney, Robin Farmer, Anne-Marie Oomen, and Kassie Rubico to celebrate with me. They’ll each read from their work, and we’ll discuss the role of personal writing from their varied perspectives.
We’ll talk about memoir, essays, poetry, and fictionalized memoir for adults and young adults, and how telling true stories touches readers in ways that pure fiction cannot. I know you’ll enjoy this opportunity to hear from these incredible writers and powerful women (not necessarily in that order!).
I hope you can join us. There will be prizes!
The event is free but to receive the Zoom link for the May 24th celebration, please register at:

If You Only Knew Literary Salon 2
July 14, 2024

I hope to be posting the final chapter my serialized memoir, If You Only Knew: A Memoir of Family Secrets and Their Undoing on this day. I invite you to join me to celebrate its completion. In this informal discussion, we’ll explore themes of family, identity, resilience, and forgiveness that resonate throughout the second half of the book.
I’ll start with a reading, and then we’ll delve into your questions, observations, and ideas, including about what it’s like to write and share deeply personal stories.
Whether you've been traveling on this journey with me from the beginning or are curious to learn more, I’d love to see you there. And don’t worry, you don’t have to have finished (or even started) reading it to participate.
