It's so important for LGBTQ+ people to find and support each other on Substack. It's a fabulous way to connect and form community with writers and readers who support other LGBTQ+ folks.
Wendy is a thoughtful, insightful, and imaginative writer that often causes me to think about things in a new way. This newsletter about the next phase of her life promises to offer ideas and reflections I've never considered.
I love the connections Andrea makes between writing memoir and living life. This is how she describes herself, "Andrea hopes to be remembered as a storyteller. She does nothing all day except think of people and how stories create us all. She writes about the process of crafting a memoir as well as the process of crafting herself."
Maj-Britt writes personal essays and stories that explore my relationship to God (They/Them/Theirs/He/She), as well as her rejection of, and eventual re-entry into, Christian life. These are strong personal stories that center questions of identity and belonging.
The next six months, we'll all be inundated with negative news about every candidate, no matter the office they're running for. When I feel discouraged, I've found that turning to Hopium News lifts my spirits and encourages me to keep fighting. Give it a try! It should work for you too.
We all know that the Middle East conflict is beyond complicated, but that's not an excuse to try to understand it. Ethan Chorin helps me do that. According to Ethan, "I write for those interested to understand the background and nuance behind Middle East conflicts & transitions, from Israel and Gaza, to the Gulf, North Africa and the Red Sea. To lighten the mood, I include occasional clips from a forthcoming dog memoir." Well worth a read!
I’ve watched from afar as Valley has developed her writing, her writing instruction, and her healing work over the years. You can be assured that whatever she shares is well-developed, thoughtful, and valuable.
Mr. Troy Ford understands that writing is about building community and he does it better than anyone on Substack. And who couldn't love his fictional characters?
Jeannine is one of the most generous, most gracious writing teachers I've ever encountered. I don't know her personally but I enjoy her presence on Substack and have learned a lot from her about writing and about teaching.
To those who know me, it's obvious why I would be recommending "Books & Women"--two of the things I love most in the world. Women writers need to be lifted up in as many places as they can be. "Books & Women" does that beautifully.
It's so rare these days to find positive imaginings of the future. Elle Griffin describes The Elysian as "a utopian garden where we can study philosophy and debate politics and rethink capitalism and enjoy contemplative leisure and be part of a new enlightenment. It’s a place where we can think through a more beautiful future through essays and literature and discourse." I love and need that!
This newsletter offers great information about new books and authors and valuable resources for writers. Its vibrant community extends its appeal. Worth checking out.
If you like reading memoir like I do, you will enjoy the many curated essays from around the web that you'll find here. It feels like a sweet indulgence to devoir these many stories all in one place. And if you write memoir, you'll find information about craft, publishing, marketing, etc in The Lit Lab. Memoir Land is wonderfully rich resource.
