I've found that writing first thing in the morning, right after I welcome the sunrise off my balcony, is helping me get the day off to a better start. It grounds me to write about things that make me happy (my December project on Substack) and not just dive into the news cycle at breakfast. Now if I could just avoid the news cycle entirely :-)
I think that's very wise. I've have drastically reduced my news intake--stayed away completely for the first month post-election and have gradually added a little back in. I enjoy the NYT newsletter "Morning." I can scan it for headlines, but nothing screams at me, and then I can go deeper on anything that calls to me. I'm still doing well on the weekly NYT News Quiz and I'm barely reading it.
And yes, I love Emma Revolution. Definitely worth adding to anyone's playlist. They played at a friend's wedding a few years back and are connected to several people I know. A great duo.

For music, check out Emma's Revolution (https://www.youtube.com/@emmasrevolution). They've worked with Holly Near, and are great inspiration to me.
